PLATONIC SUNS

When Daniel Saakes decided to make a round chandelier out of LAMPAN lights, it turned out to be harder than he had expected. How do you make a perfect circle with all the light bulbs evenly distributed? This is how he came to learn about platonic volumes. The LAMPAN proved to be the perfect building block for these 6-, 12- and 20-cornered PLATONIC SUNs.

Daniel Saakes works at the MIT Media Lab and he is finishing his PhD thesis ID-Studiolab, Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. He was teaching master course from 2005-2008 in TU Delft. He has been a Visiting designer in University of Southern Denmark 2002. Recently he is working on Living Windows project about a novel picture frame that responds on the environment light it will be exhibited at NEXT no.6, Arhus, Denmark. His work has been published in the international design press and exhibited worldwide.
